About the artist
Carol L. Douglas has studied at the Art Students League of New York with Joseph Peller, Cornelia Foss, and Nicki Orbach, and in Rochester with Steve Carpenter.
Although her style has loosened considerably during the six years she’s been painting full time, she remains first and foremost a realist. Her many years of experience as a graphic designer influence her painting. “While I have no interest in incorporating digital images into my work, I love image manipulation and photography. I know they color my work in other, less visible ways.

“As a commercial artist, I did a lot of work from photos. Now I paint or draw from life every day.” This exercise has developed her visual recall. “It allows me to concentrate on the inner matter. I suppose I’ve come around full circle to the introspection I didn’t understand as a youngster,” she says, “but for me it had to be built on technical skill, not the other way around.”
